How does JobSmack work?
JobSmack utilizes a cutting edge profiling and matching system to automatically send you information on
jobs that match your skills and interests. When you review the jobs you receive in your inbox, you will be
given the option to apply, save, or decline the job. (Note: you must have completed your profile before you can apply to a job)
Applying to a position will automatically forward your profile (and resume if you want) directly to the appropriate hiring manager,
and copy the information to the applied section of the history folder in your inbox. Saving a job will move the job information to
the saved jobs section of your inbox for consideration at a later time. You may then apply or decline saved jobs at your convenience.
Declining a job will prompt you for a reason and then move the declined job information to the declined section of your history folder.
How do I edit my profile?
Under your name in the top left there is a link allowing you to view/edit your profile.
Click on this link and it will bring up a summary of your profile, with edit links on each section of your profile.
Select the area that you wish to edit, update your profile information, and then hit continue to save the new
information to your profile. Certain fields, such as the occupation, focus and skills fields, may require
updating more than one page, however, the system will guide you to any additional pages that require updating.
What does deactivating my account do?
Deactivating your account will only prevent you from automatically receiving new job information.
All your profile information will be unaffected, and you may still search for and apply to jobs on your own.
You may reactivate your account at any time and begin automatically receiving new jobs by simply clicking the
activate account button.
How do I search for a job?
You can search for jobs on your own by clicking on the search field at the bottom of your inbox, and then choosing your job search parameters.
If you find a job you like, you may apply to the job or save it to the saved jobs section in your inbox for later consideration.
Can I apply to a job I’ve previously declined?
Yes. If you change your mind and wish to apply to a job you previously declined, you may do so by selecting the
job in the declined area of your history folder, and choosing the apply or save radio button in the header of the
job description and hitting update. However, if the apply and save options are not available than the
job has either been closed or expired, and you will not be able to reapply.
What is the close date?
The close date is the expiration date for the job. Once a job is closed by the employer or the close date is reached, you can no
longer apply for that job, and the job will be removed from your inbox or saved jobs area and moved to the expired area of your history folder.
What is the delete job button in the saved jobs area for?
The delete job button allows you to remove unsolicited jobs from the saved jobs area of your inbox.
The delete job button is only available for unsolicited jobs. If a job has been automatically matched,
you must apply or decline the job to remove it from the saved jobs section of your inbox.
What does show all link do?
The inbox and saved jobs boxes will display the 10 most recent job submissions. If you have more than 10 items in
either of these areas, you can hit show all to see a complete listing of all the jobs in your inbox or saved jobs section.
What does the view archived link do?
The applied, declined and expired sections in the history folder display the 5 most recent jobs
that you have applied to, declined, or that have expired. If you have more that 5 items in any of
these sections you may click the view archived link to display past history items.
When I do a job search, why is the save job radio button sometimes grayed out?
Jobsmack keeps track of all the jobs in your inbox, saved jobs, applied, and declined sections.
If a job is already in your inbox, or you have previously saved, applied to, or declined a job,
you will not have the option to save or apply to the job again when it comes up in an unsolicited job search.
This is to prevent you from duplicating your job search efforts.
Why are the job title and job focus fields blank on the search screen?
The Job Title and Job Focus fields are driven by the Occupation field. Once you select an occupation,
select lists for relevant job titles and job focuses will appear in the search fields.
Can I select multiple search criteria?
You may select multiple search criteria by holding down the CTRL key and selecting additional job titles, job focuses or MSA’s.
